Vinegar Glass
Presented by former Club President Ruth Towry Morter
Vinegar bottles were produced by National Fruits Products in Winchester, VA. Finger jugs were started in 1912. Some were pourers (AKA corkers) and some were screw-tops. 1920 brought the apple-shaped corker gallon bottles, and the screw-top 2 quart and pint bottles. In the 1930's, carafes introduced the lighthouse shaped bottles, rolling pins in both corkers and screw-tops. The 1939 World's Fair ushered in the globe-shaped bottles with the earth's continents in screw-tops. The lovely flower vases had a spider web design. Art deco bottles had screw-tops. We saw the depression glass "Cameo" forest green bottle, the A&P milk glass bottle with the continents like the World's Fair production. In 1983, a 75th anniversary bottle was produced.
At the end of her presentation, we had another door prize drawing. Joe Earle won the 1983 - 75th anniversary bottle of White House vinegar with the vinegar still intact!
